one for all the Brazil haters, courtesy of Guardian blog.

I watched the 'legendary' Brazil-England match all the way through when they screened it again on BBC, I think the night before the QF in 2002...and it was not all that. Pretty boring, as a matter of fact. The lack of full showings of such matches lets people pretend they were something they weren't.

Looking at the mistakes there against the italians, they'd 've been murdred tonight by Mexico on the counter. Well, correct thatr, it would've been about 4-4.

Domenech now France's longest serving manager :slanted:

Also thought that Mark Bright did quite a good job on the co-commentary in France-Mexico, much better than that tit Lawrenson (I really have it in for Mark Lawrenson)

this probably may sound damning w faint praise but i think M Bright has been my fave BBC co-commentator thus far. out of the ITV co-commentators, Craig Levein (well i think it was him, it was a Craig w a Scottish accent :D even if i never caught his last name) for Chile-Honduras has been the single best co-commentator effort i think i've heard so far.

France.... We've never not made it out of the first stage in the world cup. We would've beaten Uruguay and South Africa, drawn with Mexico and gone onto the next round.

What a waste.

don't think the Irish would've beaten Uruguay but point taken, and some justice has been restored w the waste man approach the French 'managed' :)

The way the played in their opening match I think we would've had em 1-0. Last two games we played (friendlies, sure) Paraguay 2-1 Algeria 3-0.

Bottom line is, France are shit, we would've been better. If nothing else, we keep our heads up.

true about URU opener, and Paraguay are a tidy outfit. i didn't know that :D

also, this French team must be about the most spectacular 'less than sum of parts' for some time.

That Domenech choosing his teams based on star signs and shit has to be a contributing factor. If I was Malouda and getting put out of the team based on Gemini rising I'd be going fucking mental.

James to start...

While the youngster, Joe Hart, has been consistently the most impressive of the three goalkeepers in training since the squad first convened in Austria ahead of the tournament

Ho hum

my god, what a numpty, that's Glenn Hoddle managerial esque territory that :D

Only Sagittariuses believe in that astrology rubbish.

Joe Hart should definitely be no.1 - he's had by far the best season and seemed mentally strong in the under-21 Euros.

The Times's goalie stats also said that he had made no major blunders during the prem season. James had made one and Green four - it was in the stars, I tells you!

<STRIKE>i'm sure w our best keeper Hart starting' the hugely impressively in-form Dawson paired alongside Terry, we'll see good changes from the disastrously slow Carra' and w J Cole let loose alongside Lennon' and Stevie left to wonder at will just behind Roonaldo; w the likes of Heskey and Crouch and SWP and Defoe just kept on the bench unless really needed, it'll be a vintage England performance w the 11 best players we've got being utilised in their best positions</STRIKE>

oh.

oh no.

who is playing alongside Terry? Amid all the talk of problem positions up front and in goal it's barely been mentioned. He's not playing Carra is he?

i do indeed believe it is Carra alas.

as i said last night, i'm looking forward to a great day of World Cup action tomorrow (Fri 18th), oh and then there's the Group C matches as well... ...been having a look at the Yank press BTW, they are unnecessarily worried re the Slovenes.

understandable given the poor US record against eastern European opposition but they'll surely be fine.

this ref is priceless.

i'd love to see him officiate at a British non-league game, he'd have sent everyone off after about twenty minutes.
