i saw dog star man the full 4 hour thing and kept falling asleep. i read an interview with one of his students, derek cianfrance, the guy who made 'the place beyond the pines', and he was saying how brakhage was really trying to change the language of cinema, using fuzziness and film scratching etc. like its about shape and composition etc.
some of the images from that film are still etched on my mind, all the water birth scenes that keep getting repeated and the scenes on the grass.
iain sincliar was very influenced by him and used to do loads of super 8 'diary films' in the 60s/70s, all around dalston and hackney. they showed them at the rio a while ago, they're really good just as documents really, and some good sound/music on them too.
if you enjoyed from hell, you might like this conversation alan moore had with dave sim (now cancelled). I'm sure i've posted the link before, it blew my head open when i first read it. it's like a continuation of the last chapter of from hell.
