When you consider that US Hip Hop has morphed into mainstream trance, it doesn't seem particularly strange that Tech House has become Road music.
I find it quite funny how much it bothers people, apparently no-one told the London yout what they were supposed to like...
have ill blu put anything out recently? funkystepz seem to have slowed down as well

there´s new Ill Blu stuff on the way soon I think, hope its better than the last single. They seemed to have peaked with the Meltdown EP.
Funkystepz have a new EP out this month, awesome as always

While I obviously love everything Funkystepz and Ill Blu do, I'd say anyone still having them at the forefront of UK dance music is not listening to a lot of what is happening.
It's a pity that a lot of the old guard just decided to box everything house together without actually paying any attention to it. Say, Formula's deep house tunes sound more... errr... "road" than anything Night Slugs have ever done.

obv funkystepz, ill blu etc arent at the cutting edge of uk dance music anymore. though honestly, im not sure who is anymore.
Thats pretty stupid and typifies whats wrong with this place. If the statement is correct, does it really matter who says it? I know its mostly men in here, and when boys get together it gets competitive, but really, you lot seem so desperate to be down with the street. And really, were Funkystepz and Ill Blu ever really the cutting edge of uk dance?

Things like that bok bok quote and Blackdown's utterly facile 'takedown' of Disclosure reek of bitterness and jealousy at their time having passed (and the blinkered viewpoint that David M mentioned earlier). I mean, some of these anti-house criticisms might have had a bit more validity a couple of years ago, but since then there's been loads of great UK house music.
Anyway, this thread was supposed to be about DJing wasn't it?

well no its not, i do get tired of reading this sort of rubbish. By all means carry on calling people out on it for me.
It's true that the DJing side of things does seem to be getting less attention, ironic since the 'everyone's a DJ' explosion with laptop DJs and that.
Jackin's actually a great example of that, as, apart from Marcus Nasty - who doesn't produce the stuff! - not one of them is really a top class DJ. Hannah Wants is maybe the most technically proficient, does lots of borrowing vocals from one track to layer over another, times the drops impeccably, all that sort of stuff. But then, she's the best example of exactly what I hope /DOESN'T/ happen to jackin, which that it edges every closer to european big room house and the London shuffle scene. I know jackin's always had pretentions of being 'deep', but it works best when that 'deepness' goes wrong, like You Want Me.
For my money Champions just about the best DJ in the UK at the moment...

im just saying that if someone 'from road' said what bok bok did, it would probably carry more weight with people (i.e. producers) 'from road' than from someone who in a previous interview, said "I was interested in grime from a socio-economic point of view and I started looking around the world to see if there was anything similar happening". so its pretty simple really. and im not trying to be down with the street (UGH), my favourite album this year is random access memories, which isnt exactly obscure/street/hardcore.
