well, yeah, but i also have a more kinda mystica trippy sense of it wanting to actualise itself. thats part of what i mean by it being an attractor too. like it exerts an actual pull on both the people and the politicans etc

Reminds me of a thought I've often had about the future ending up looking like Blade Runner or some other science fiction film because we just like the aesthetic. That a society could be based on something as frivolous as a piece of entertainment. It's what happens in Galaxy Quest. The characters are these ageing actors who did a show like Star Trek back in the day and a bunch of aliens appear who somehow picked up the signal and based their actual civlisation on the fictional one.

While that's true, it's not happening in isolation, is it? Look at policies aimed specifically at disenfranchising non-white people, or rolling back just about every progressive bit of legislation on race, gender, disability and so on since the 1960s.

Right, but those attitudes aren't exclusive to Nazism. I think what we're looking at's a particularly American flavour of fascism, just as the Nazis were a German flavour. This is why the term 'Trumpism' was coined. It's its own thing.

Right, but they aren't exclusive to Nazism. I think what we're looking at's a particularly American flavour of some sort of fascism, just as the Nazis were a German fascism.

OK, yes, not all kinds of fascism are the same. For one thing, the historical Nazis went on a massive spending spree and pulled Germany out of the Great Depression, while the Trump-Musk regime appears to be intent on stripping back the state to the bare bones and letting the entire country's infrastructure rot. But "Nazi" is an instantly recognisable brand and they're not exactly doing anything to distance themselves from it.

the US persuaded by europe that some kind of american 'backstop' is neccessary for global security, to guard against further conflict, presumably entailing ukraianian territorial concessions and greater european commitments, financial and military.
doesn't seem like they're very keen but definitely possible

the US make a pact with russia, leave ukraine to its fate and europe with a fait accompli which they eventually accept. ukraine becomes part of russia europe squeezed between two basically hostile powers. possible further encroachment on europe by russia, splintering off some of its eastern regions. pretty horrifying but possible

military neccesity forging greater european cohesion, war-stance energising europe financially and technologically till it can threaten/contain russia alone and intergrate ukraine. unlikely.
