Reza Pahlavi *sp
So the son of the ousted king is keen on a restoration of the monarchy? Whodathunkit?!

Come on though, he may live in the US but that's a pretty far cry from "the West wants to reinstall the Shah."

Anyway, this reminds me of a time many years ago when I lived in London, and an Arab friend of mine told me he'd heard there was a demo planned outside the Iranian embassy, so he was going to go an offer some cross-cultural solidarity and did I want to come too. (For context I think this was after some obviously very bent "elections" in which Achmedinnerjacket had got about 103% of the popular vote.)

Most of the protestors were, I assume, in favour of some kind of secular republic as an alternative to the Islamic one, but there was another, far smaller demo going on just up the road, made up of (presumably mainly upper-class) Iranians who supported a return of the monarchy. There didn't seem to be much interaction going on between them and the much bigger main group.

It was a very well-dressed crowd. I don't think I've seen so many Armani sunglasses in one place before or since.

Also, Fox News has been interviewing no less an authority on Iranian missiles than Oliver North! Presumably he's just pissed off that they didn't buy the ones they're currently using from him.

He’s been standing right behind Trump at virtually every press conference on the subject (Iran). I usually don’t watch corporate news. When it comes to times like this you kind of have to look at CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera.
If for no other reason than they have outlets, breadth of coverage world wide. The dude has been making speeches (to who? Idk).
But let’s not pretend this is the first time, instead of minding our own fucking business, and I say that as a member of the American WC, not the big business players that see ‘opirtunity’.. some on here think the world would be a better place w/o the current regime. I say A. Regime change begins at home. B. No Israel, as it’s run today. Less problems.

There have been plenty of demonstrations for a more secular republic with very large turnouts. Invariably, a western powers (I include Israel in that) does some stupid shit that had the opposite effect and drives the populace back into the arms of the leadership.
Even here. After the 2000 FSSC anointed Bush 2 president people were egging his limo.
After 9/11 many of those same people embraced him because we were under attack.

Persians, not Iranians. The first example that comes to mind were the rich exploiters under Batista when Castro gained power & they lost their I’ll-gotten gains

If by 'Persians' you mean the pro-monarchy lot, then maybe I worded that part of the post poorly. I meant that all the Iranians I saw that day were snappily dressed.
