It sounds hyperbolic calling him the best rock vocalist of all time but given rock is a genre in which no one can sing it's not really saying much at all. I mean, who is better? Stevie Nicks. Who else? Not the Beatles, not Jagger, not Daltrey, not even Phil Lynott who I like.

loathe him as we might, McCartney can definitely sing (or could, anyway). daltry and jagger not so much.

roy Orbison had a great voice, not a rock singer though.

Arguable that rock isnt often about singing in the trad sense at all; at least not when it's good.
