There is a distinct possibility they're doing it just to be cunts. The last five years hasn't won us a lot of good will across the rest of the EU.But I still don't get this sandwich thing. If you fly in to the EU from the US or drive in from the East do they seize your sandwiches?
this was my first thought as well which kinda makes everything even more sad, sometimes i feel like england and the eu are just two babies in diapers taking away each others toys. i also think that this kind of exaggerated and strict enforcement only feeds anti-eu sentiment in the uk.There is a distinct possibility they're doing it just to be cunts. That's what I mean, it looks like that cos I've flown to various places in my life and I'm sure that in quite a few of them it would have been illegal for me to import foo, but they tended not to interpret the gum I was chewing on, or the packet of crisps (or chips as they call them in the US in my bag that I was planing on eating the next day as food that is being imported. And probably the Dutch could do that too if they chose./There is a distinct possibility they're doing it just to be cunts. Interesting that you say that cos from where I've been sitting I've thought that the EU has generally avoided the temptation to sink to our level.sometimes i feel like england and the eu are just two babies in diapers taking away each others toys.

I mean obviously in the UK you have the newspapers ramping up the rhetoric and attacking the EU, but to my eternal shame you have had similar nonsense from backbenchers like Redwood but even people involved in or close to the negotiations, talking about world war two and sovereignty and the enemy... whereas you have a number of EU politicians deliberately avoiding that, and also just being generally level-headed and saying "we know that half of country wants to stay" and just doing the basics like recognising that the UK is not one undifferentiated black of racist leavers like Johnson and Mark Francois.
So that was another thing that chastened me further from this whole experience, watching the UK being on the wrong side of an argument and then making it worse by acting like kids and insulting the far more competent negotiators from the EU who were just doing their job - claiming that they were seeking to control us and so on and so forth.
So, if this is, as it appears, a petty act from the Dutch authorities then from what I've seen it's actually the first of them, and also, I really wouldn't blame them one bit.
Does this kind of impossibly stupid bullshit happen in other countries? It's just seems that it's now become completely standard in the UK.Boris Johnson’s “sea of opportunity” promise to fishermen has turned into a “nightmare”, with hundreds of thousands of pounds of sales lost due to new red tape, the SNP’s Westminster leader has said.
Ian Blackford told how one shellfish exporter had lost £40,000 in a day, with many more losing out due to bureaucratic hold-ups at the border.
Fishing minister Victoria Prentis, appearing before a House of Lords committee, admitted “things are tricky at the moment” but said her team is “working hard” to resolve issues as they arose.
During her appearance Ms Prentis raised eyebrows by telling peers she did not read the fisheries deal when it was published on Christmas Eve because she was “very busy organising the local Nativity trail”.
Flights from Plague Island to Portugal and vice versa are banned from tomorrow... so who cares?
