French study: by day 3, 80% of patients have cleared COVID-19, all of them by day 6.

I saw Peston talking about this on Twitter yesterday.... crazy that they do nothing for ages and then bring in incredibly draconian measures that are gonna last for TWO YEARS. A cynic would say it's all about power and nothing to do with the virus and they can't even be bothered to make it look as though it is.

Well, and French police have that certain reputation, well earned too. Presume it's not the same for the Portuguese?
You got various different types of police here. There is one group that all look fit and have scary guns and big boots and stuff... they come to drug street on the weekends and chase all the dealers around. In Santa Iria it's not really like that. In fact looking off the balcony there are loads of people out there... outside the chemist yeah, but also walking in both directions, driving around etc Mostly only individuals though I guess which is something.
Bet the gammons are loving the Barnier thing.

one of my best friends of 25+ years lives there, on north Harvey ave. trapped indoors with wife and two teenage daughters, says they're already getting cranky. be safe.

One of my friends says "some bars and restaurants are open but with the doors locked, I can hear them talking and serving food and drinks inside".

I'm getting a bit weirded out by constant seeing this thread being updated and being made to feel I'm being sarcastically thanked/blamed for the pandemic.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but...

...Car broke down, AA man was a good laugh, talking about his wife ('she said if I buy another motorbike, I'm single') who is a midwife. He told us to watch out for all the births in December. September is traditionally her busiest month and he said she's told him there will be a boom around Xmas 'cos there's nothing else to do, no sport, you watch'.

Darned cockwombles.
Possibly disagree - the prospect of giving birth in an NHS hospital will be terrifying for a lot of women rn. Although maybe people are still in denial.

Well yeah, but he meant that women will be giving birth in December/January ie 9 months from now. Sorry shouldve made that clearer.

My friend rang to cancel his subscription to some sports channel but they said he can have it for free for the next few months seeing as there is nothing on. I guess they don't want people cancelling and then potentially not signing up again. Think they're just showing repeats of loads of classic tournaments and stuff.

but I meant any sane woman will be tripling up on contraception at the moment, cos December is going to be a shitstorm - immune systems are down, coronvirus comes back

I'm surprised at how the number of infections and deaths reported in the US seems relatively low still... is that just cos they are not testing people properly or are they behind in the curve.... or are they doing something right that I don't know about?

same with gyms - they don't want people to cancel cos they won't get them back. In that way there is a minute victory for the customer here

Oh right I see. Well we did say that to him, that it's possibly the last thing on anyone's mind right now, but he gave us a look and said you mark my words or something.

We'll see I suppose, but I thought it was an interesting comment. He also, when we phoned the call in, said 'sorry to stop you there, but did I just hear a ticket cough'....

He's probably right about pregnancies on reflection, cos a lot of people won't take it seriously enough. This is ofc very fucked up, but could also be a spike in abortions once the state of the NHS becomes clear and people see what's happening.
As said somewhere else, I have a friend who's pregnant and almost due, and praying for her sake that she gives birth asap before the coronavirus cases really start mounting up. I just don't even know what's gonna happen.

Been having an ongoing joke with someone at work who's reaction to pandemic was to read the book of revelation. He mentioned the mark on the wrist and the forehead. I found an article from guardian that talked about a strategy in Bombay, where people are having the word 'quarantine' put on their wrists in indelible ink, so sent him that.

And today, saw that people going into a hospital are being temperature scanned on entry. The reception person asks them to stop and points a digital thermometer at their head, then says 'oh yeah 35, you're fine' then they can pass.

So I was saying to him that this is the mark. The difference being that the mark is invisible but can be detected.
