A document from Prevent, the official scheme to stop radicalisation, includes believing in socialism, communism, anti-fascism and anti-abortion in a list of potential signs of ideologies leading to terrorism.

It comes as the Conservative government considers widening what it will consider to be extremism.

The document is part of online Prevent awareness training for those covered by the duty to inform if they suspect radicalisation. That includes teachers and youth workers.

they forgot environmentalism

In a section on single-issue ideologies, the document reads: “Narratives are likely to come from those who seek to change a specific policy or practice, as opposed to replacing the whole economic, political or social system. Examples include animal rights, anti-abortion or anti-fascism. Single-issue narratives can be politically agnostic, meaning they may be neither right nor left aligned.”

I imagine environmentalism will fall under this and also be included.

Five supporters of the Just Stop Oil climate campaign who conspired to cause gridlock on London’s orbital motorway have been sentenced to lengthy jail terms by a judge who told them they had “crossed the line from concerned campaigner to fanatic”.

[...]

The sentences are thought to be the longest sentences ever given in the UK for non-violent protest, exceeding those given to the Just Stop Oil protesters Morgan Trowland (three years) and Marcus Decker (two years and seven months) for scaling the Dartford Crossing.

The defendants' behaviour in court sounds uniquely self-indulgent and irritating. Their notion that they could hold the government to ransom and repeat the stunt also self-aggrandising and deluded. Ultimately they're probably mentally fragile fantasists imprinted with a one-track mind from immersion in hysterical propaganda, not unlike the Trump shooter, so are victims themselves too.

Five years sounds a lot but if you trap 10,000 people in their cars for 2 hours that's roughly 3 years of imprisoning innocent people with all the knock-on effects: fair's fair.
