Simon Hoggat had a test for whether a political statement was bland - he would say the opposite of that statement and if that was something that just obviously really bad and that no politician would ever say then you could see that the original statement was so pointless it was barely worth saying.

Here we have - "Securing our future" and the opposite would be something like "not securing our future" or even "making our future uncertain and dangerous" which no-one would ever say... so I conclude that the Securing our Future statement is so bland as to be meaningless.

and it will be closed by the time you get there. this is why you should always have minimum 5 bottles of spirits in the house at all times to cover emergencies such as these. i was explaining this to benny b the other day. always, always, always, have minimum 5 bottles. could be scotch, could be rum, could be vodka or tequila. but make sure they are there.

There's nothing bland and meaningless about committing to a 100 year pact though is there? As well what other commitments we're making that could lead us into a war. That's the mindset behind 'securing our future' that I find worrying.
