All the right-wingers who've just discovered how FPTP works and are now up in arms claiming it's anti-democratic after years of not caring when it kept returning Tories.

Yeah, one of my younger brothers was telling me a bunch of his mates all hate him too. It's bizarre to see such extreme reactions to such a dull, inoffensive figure. I wonder whether it's partly down to people struggling to process a bland managerial type after so much chaos and sensationalism. He can't be taken at face value, he must be hiding something.
I guess it's kind of natural and right to hate the PM, but what I don't get is the difference in tone, it's as though he's somehow an objectively evil monster and so they are justified in this utterly hysterical howling about how he's a murderous socialist, that the country will fall into the sea if he's not removed yesterday. What makes him so different, not just in degree but in kind, to every other PM in my lifetime?

From what I remember from that time, Major was widely disliked and often mocked, but he wasn't really despised. A lot of people are reacting to Starmer like they did to Thatcher.

His government was though, it was real end of an era stuff, just desperate to somehow cling on to power but with no idea how to do it and every time they thought they had got hold of the narrative another back bencher would embezzle a load of money or die in some weird sex game involving a child or something... same as last few years of the recent tory regime.

But regardless of how they were/are perceived I think major and starmer are closer in character than any other two recent pms.

The tories were despised tho

They were given a lot of leeway. It took fourteen years for people to get to that level of hatred whereas Labour seem to have been hated from the off.

I think the primary factor's social media and the right's media operation. The bulk of the media in the UK's owned by people on the right and the public are more plugged into the news cycle than ever. It's a perfect storm. There's an endless stream of sensationalised negative coverage coming through their screens all day every day. You get GB News and random angry vloggers recommended on YouTube by default.

He may also be more popular than we think, or at least less controversial, and we're just falling for coverage and social media manipulation designed to convince us nobody likes him.

Plus nothing seems likely to get better. Staying alive keeps getting more expensive. Whos happy?

I saw a clip of your hero, Bill Burr, the other day and he was saying he didn't get how you could be a billionaire like Musk and be furious about the state of the country. It's clearly working for you if you're a billionaire.

Just got this text from an unknown number

Hello again everyone. What I would like to do is pay some children to mash up keir starmer and Wes streetings feet with golf clubs. The children would be instructed to not go above the shin just the feet please and it would all be filmed but I need cash to make this happen so please reply to my message with GOLF if you would be willing to pay children five pounds or more to mash up the feet of Keir starmer and Wes streeting so it was all just like a pink paste with golf clubs that I will provide myself cheers

Sad indictment on children today that they wouldn't do it for nothing more than the sheer innocent pleasure of it. 🙁

That hadn't drastically changed for the worse a few months after Labour got in though, had it? The negative sentiment's almost staggeringly out of sync with the actual conditions. We've had people claiming Starmer's "destroyed" Britain as though the whole place disappeared into the ocean the moment the Tories left office.
