What happened in the last few months?
Just the tail end of a larger trend of detachment and ataraxia, less desire to buy/own things - which says a lot because both sides of my family have a history of hoarding, albeit in my maternal grandmother's case the stuff is put to good use via assemblage.

Stan has talked extensively about outsourcing his sexual fantasy life to online pornography.
Yeah that residuum seems more enduring than other desires. Very insubstantial, but still recurring. The interesting thing in my experience with meditation now is that the desire to meditate is beginning to supplant other desires that I consider unfulfilling, like video games, buying things, and porn.

I’ve been terrible with meditation recently but two days ago I did 15 minutes when I was feeling awful and fuck me what a godsend

woops

is not like other people
I was just listening to a song and started daydreaming about being on stage and my dance moves were blowing minds. Then I made eye contact with a girl and gave her a smirk and then carried on blowing minds.

Tell us some of yours!
this fantasy has now become a reality where @shiels believes he can control minds via his dance moves. make someone like a song they don't like, and also make a girl like a @shiels she doesn't like

something that is worth thinking about is how a kind pop buddhism has become the de facto religion of the capitalist west and as such we inherit a whole range of assumptions, which we don't examine closely enough and one of those assumptions is that fantasy should be bansihed

yes but it does raise the question of whether we should dispell them. i would argue the mind becomes a much more dull and lifeless place when we do so.
I would agree, if you have nothing to replace them with, in terms of "psychological robustness" (a new pop mindfulness term I encountered).

In my case, I'm steering away from gratification as sustainably as I can, and toward long-term fulfillment, which in my case is pretty austere stuff like the indefinite expansion of knowledge and consciousness. Really it feels like unlocking superpowers.

The actual social fantasies here largely take the form of witty, supergenius testimonies at congressional hearings.
I’d say everyone on this forum has they ‘you are a genius mate’ fantasy. For this reason I text luke the other day because I’m a good friend saying luke I think you are a genius (I do) and he said he cried after reading it because it was exactly what he needed in that moment

but as someone who has turned off a lot of automatic functions of the mind im far from convinced that a mind without content is a desireable thing

Yeah I think the whole angle of banishing certain aspects of your mind is generally a non-starter as best, and at worst a practice that has a detrimental effect.

Yeah are you able to see how it can override your other desires if you really pursue it seriously?

I think a lot of it just depends on semantics, but right now I'm of the notion that desire for fulfillment and desire for gratification have different roles psychically, and it seems like generally people opt for gratification because its easier and less vague. Also more ephemeral, and so a poor foundation for a meaningful existence in my opinion.

But here I'm not willing to generalize to a universal extent. Maybe some other people are able to rely solely on gratification without feeling empty at all.

Where members of both parties adamantly try to fit in as many questions about my psychic quest into their five-minute slots as possible, and ultimately I am able to inspire a a peaceful and dialectical end to the culture war.

Although I find I tend to underestimate how strong Christianity still is, mainly across the right wing. But yeah that kind of pop buddhism seems like the closest thing to a religion for the secular left.

What role do your ideas about being a man, gender play in shaping how you channel all this energy?

Actually on the face of it, you'd think someone in my position would have a colorful set of sexual preferences, but its actually very mild and innocent. Really I'd go as far as to say I've never had a sexual fantasy life.
