i haven't read any of this thread but it's one of the most noticeable cultural changes i've seen in the last decade is men in particular thinking so much, and knowing so much, about what they're eating. i was always annoyed by it, like mate seriously it's not a competition, but unfortunately eventually i was such a mess i had to give it a go, i mean eating 'well' and not being drunk all the time, and the frustrating and boring fact is that despite the fact it makes you neurotic and it means you have this additional bullshit in your head all the time, being well nourished is a genuinely useful tool for feeling good on a day to day basis

mark e smith was one of the first to notice this i think, in his book he complains about hearing blokes saying to each other i've just had some curry, now i'm going home to have some chips haha, i suppose he just expected them to say ay up lad comin t'pub
