So, the reason Kari Lake lost her attempts to overturn the election is cos the court was corrupt. And the reason there were no charges in the Durham report is cos he knew that he couldn't win. This is a good one cos although he concluded that no charges could be brought, commentators are spinning it to say that he concluded lots of people were guilty, and combined with this it means, say, while he actually said that there was no crime Obama could be charged with, MAGA are taking it as he concluded Obama was guilty and should be charged but he decided not to because the courts would let him off.

in a broader sense, this is why the GOP has lost winnable elections, and support from their traditional core of moderate suburban voters. the far right has crawled so far up their own butts that they talk in normal tones about things that are ridiculous nonsense to anyone who doesn't drink the kool-aid.

It feels that this moves so far from reality it stops being any kind of opposition. People insisting that the government is illegitimate and that Lake is the real governor etc it crosses a line from being protest to living in a fantasy world. However much they insist Biden isn't president, he is in the white house giving orders and pretending otherwise won't change it.

I suppose what I'm saying is that there are people who protest, campaign etc and can challenge a government, maybe make them think twice etc and you would assume that people of the same persuasion but more radical, might pose even more challenges, but, except for freak occurrences such as Jan 6th, that's not the case cos they kinda veer away from reality into ineffectualness.

maybe it's due to social media. it's so easy for people to become nutters, wallowing in their own hermetically sealed conspiracy theory reenforcement loops. it's easy to become keyboard warriors in an us-against-them struggle that most of the outside world doesn't even know exists.

Thank heavens that's never happened to any of us, eh?

It's funny how with any question about almost any social phenomena, it's possible to lazily and thoughtlessly say "social media is probably a factor" - and be right.

Leo, you want unnecessarily far by actually explaining your argument and showing that you had thought about it, but really it's been so pervasive and dominant that it really is involved in everything we do and every change of human behavior...

History of humanity goes something like...

Hunter-gatherers then farmers etc then a load of stuff that's not really that important and then we become insta-twitterers

Speaking of Rhodes the one-eyed Oathkeeper who got 18 years, just found out why that description fits him...

In case you had never heard how Oath Keepers leader Elmer Stewart Rhodes lost his eye, here it is: he dropped a loaded .22 caliber pistol, and it discharged and hit him in the eye. Dumb ass.

Didn't one of the lawyers representing the 6 Jan insurrectionists say "You have to understand that these people are basically retarded"?

Edit: more or less

“A lot of these defendants—and I’m going to use this colloquial term, perhaps disrespectfully—but they’re all fucking short-bus people. These are people with brain damage, they’re fucking retarded, they’re on the goddamn spectrum.”

So Rudy got ordered by court to pay $148m to the two people he pretended committed election fraud.

Thing is, these huge awards - this one and the Alex Jones one - make headlines and it seems like justice has been done with the baddies punished and the victims at least paid a large sum to salve their wounds. But is it real? Did Alex Jones pay? Will he? Can he? And if he can't and he's ruined then do the victims get anything?

Regarding Jones, the Sandy Hook families have agreed to waive the vast majority of the damages awarded to them against him, but he's apparently still spending money hand over first, refusing to cooperate and generally being a total cunt.

So yeah, it's bizarre that the court can't basically just drag him to jail until he's paid what he owes, use bailiffs to seize his assets, and so on.

I asked this question on twitter and apparently they made an offer and he made a counter offer and so on... point is the announcement of the settlement is far from the finishing line. I can't help wondering if the sheer size of the settlement actually delayed their receipt of funds.

In case you missed it, Georgia has confirmed
17.852 INVALID votes for Election 2020 in
Fulton County ALONE.
Joe's margin of "victory" in Georgia: 11,779
Trump won Georgia.

I don't get the point of these things. They just make up a complete lie and spread it around twitter for a bit while the terminally gormless who can't be bothered to make even the simplest check, eat it up saying "I knew it - and nothing will be done!".

But why do they do it? Just to get a few likes or whatever? It just doesn't seem worth it, what does anyone gain from telling utterly pointless, easily debunked lies on twitter?

Oh now there is a recording of Trump pressuring people in Wayne County Michigan not to certify the election and offering to pay for their lawyers if it caused them a problem (they were probably wise not to take him up on that!).

So could be another indictment on the cards except for a) when to fit it in and b) what's the point? We're really seeing the advantages of this kinda going the whole hog here. One incident scandal but three, four or twenty etc makes little difference after that. I donno if it was a deliberate strategy but if so you have to say it was a pretty good one.

- Implicated on the call as well was RNC Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDanial.

- Trump was recorded telling the two canvassers that they would look "terrible" if they signed the documents to approve certification of the county’s election results.

Quotes from Trump to the Canvassers:
- "We've got to fight for our country.
- "We can't let these people take our country away from us."
- He then offered to pay for their attorneys, after McDanial also promised to do the same.

You really would have to have been born yesterday to fall for that, wouldn't you?
