I love the internet tbh.
If you had told me when I was 10 years old, in 1998, that twenty years later I would have a little box I would carry everywhere and it could let me watch every show and, more importantly, listen to any music I wanted, at any time and any place in the world, I would have thought I would have to be making Bills Gates money and it would have been the greatest thing ever. We didn't even have five terrestial channels until 1999, I only got to watch TOTP and The Chart Show to find out about music, which is why my taste is historically terrible.
When I realised I was gay and never going to get a shag in my hometown I used the internet to connect with people from nearby towns and cities. Faceparty and early Myspace. I'd probably have never met another gay man until I was 18 at uni and that would have been dismal. Not that it was excellent but at least it opened a door that wasn't open to me then. I think online dating is wonderful because it allows you to self-select and peruse in a way that being set-up or meeting people in a social situation doesn't.
I love Wikipedia wormholes. I love Discogs recommendations. Nature is over-rated.
