they're tiny. it's mad. the first time i was here i ended up in a lawyer's place somewhere in kips bay or something, she was maybe in her 50s, i couldn't believe how shit her flat was. i assumed she must have quite a lot of money but it was this tiny little place that smelt of dogs. it's the same now, like my techno banker mate, i mean it's a nice flat, but it's tiny. you end up sitting on this bed thing he's made out of pallets in the combined living room / kitchen thing.
i don't know but my guess is that it's always been more or less like that. it's by far the most important city in the western hemisphere, there's not even a near contender. it's the most important city in a country that's still basically the global hegemon. and the island geography means there's only a couple of directions the city can sprawl in.
