I do like trance, although haven't listened to a lot of it. I love Xpander. Always seemed to me like if Basic Channel made trance. One idea looping round, riding the mixing desk.
Another thing that strikes me is it feels like a natural extension, it doesn't feel forced or artificial. It's like the tendril of a plant unfolding, leaves leaning toward the light. That pastoralism someone mentioned in the YouTube comments. It's all wide, open spaces, lone spacecraft etc.The "true" future, to me, seems to be completely weightless and frictionless, gliding through space at high speed.
There's the future and "The Future", imo, and the latter's formed in the childhood imagination. The stuff I'm talking about in this thread's very much the latter. It's a mythology I can't separate from feelings of childlike wonder because it can only take shape in the mind of the child.I think as I didn't get to go to a club till 1999 probably that most of this music just seems like my childhood as opposed to the future. But the computer games still resonate.
Who or what conforming with what?
I wasn't arguing the imagination's futuristic. I was saying the mythical conception of the future rooted in my childhood isn't literal and probably never will be, but somehow still feels "true".
Yes, which is what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the actual future or futurism. I'm talking about a particular fantasy of the future rooted in stuff I encountered as a child in the 90s.
