watching a lot of lakers games hightlights and its striking how uncompetitive the game is. theres no defence. you just take a shot the let the other team have a go. im not sure it was like that when i used to watch in the 90s. its very very low intensity as a sport. not exciting at all.

You were joking when you described basketball as a minority sport... maybe... but I felt bad when I said Mavs were a smaller version of United... so I looked it up and then I didn't feel so bad. I didn't realise how niche US sports are, I think, correct me if I'm wrong the biggest team (franchise) in the US across all sports is Dallas Cowboys.... and if you look up their total support it's about the same as I dunno Wolverhampton Wanderers or Ipswich Town or something. In terms of people worldwide who care about their games Tottenham are about the size of the entire NFL.

there totally are elite athletes in minority sports

im a massive fan of australian rugby league another minority sport. exceptional athletes like greg inglis in aussiie RL. but its a tiny pond.

labron james was an elite athlete. tall, powerful, coordinated. but only a few people ever saw him as he existed in a sport only a miniscule number of people paid attention to

but with football you get to see romanians head to head with brazilians. doughty brits grappling with sexy spaniards. little tiny spanish men runing rings around pasty northern europeans. fascist italians giving fascist salutes. its amazing. basketball is a very low intensity sport not even the players care if they win or lose. theyre just having a run around. spanish midgets doing intricate passing patterns. spanish dwarfs. brazilian samba dancers doing circus tricks. dead eyed romanians. argentinian coke heads. french algerians doing head butts. its a collision of cultures.
