Lo fi house

I can't remember the last time I danced, my problem really. "It takes the physical to create the physical". I like STLs drum sounds particularly though.

this stuff is really hard to mix in a set - it sounds so anaemic when you mix it into something that's more finessed. But "mood board" seems right - I think this stuff is to be enjoyed as texture rather than functional dance music.

Also, making this stuff is very deliberate - it's probably harder to make something sound so lo-fi when you're using Ableton at this point.

Not true. Jamal Mosse and Traxx are as visceral as dance music gets in that 80s industrial/house/synth disco/nu beat lineage.

Don't care much about the rest of the people posted in this thread though, so youse might be right about them.

I don't really think of that stuff as lo-fi in the same way as this DJ Seinfeld/Ross From Friends/Eddie The Dog From Frasier Not The Original One That Died But The Replacement Dog/whatever. That stuff seems alive with purpose whereas this newer scene feels deliberately inwards-gazing, much more in thrall to Kompakt etc

oh ok fair enough. I can't really tell you about what happened to Kompakt after 2011 really, think Immer three was the last comp I got from them and wasn't very impressed.

the first immer is still great though.

Real millennial euro optimism hours before that became a cliche (for me)

It's weird because I'm a massive cologne head, the 90s stuff before kompakt is basically some of my favourite music for me @boxedjoy

But when they got into all that The Field over the ice stuff I can't really with them anymore.

But wholly hell all the dr. walker stuff is still on another level, pure alien boogie.

I think Total 12 was the last one that was halfway decent, but I'll shamelessly defend the peak years of emo trance widescreen techno I danced to in the 00s

tbf if you have any mixes of that stuff i might give em another chance.

There's one i really like but not sure if it's on kompakt, it's one that i think @trilliam will really dig - gabriel ananda - doppelwipper. mental tune.

The Field and DJ Seinfeld etc are all big with the people I know who grew up loving early 90s indie and then discovering dance music (and drugs). I'm unreasonably fond of some of this stuff ("unreasonable" = "my reasons are not good", not outsize) I'm coming to it from being into shoegaze indie and the textural crossover.
