I've told him that, that he should feel no guilt, what's the point, its music, but he feels pretty strong about it, can no longer enjoy it. Don't think he's gone as far as getting rid of his cds or anything, but no longer listens.

Maybe he does and has just not told me.

The guys who liked The Smiths at my school were the insufferably cool obnoxious twats.

I think some of them had previously been Cure fans too.

So probably The Cure for me, on points. Nicer fans, overall. Amazing run of early singles. No legacy has been shat on, either.

Similar. Ridiculous hair, cardigans, wearing flowers in apparel and inevitably getting battered on the way home from school

Evolution in progress

They were all wearing dungarees and bucket hats a few years later

It’s strange because I did all that lovelorn weedy ill kid in his bedroom with books and records thing. But because of that, I wanted music that was an escape route, not a celebration of it.

The Cure’s “Head On A Door” is like a weedy kid‘s flu dream, but warped into Alice In Wonderland with a smooshed lipstick smile on the Cheshire Cat.

It is a weird thing to celebrate isn't it? I definitely did do that but even at the time I found it strange.

Agree with @Benny B Well I Wonder captures a longing and a yearning that few others do. I know we’ll get our usual ‘it was all shit, everything you ever liked is wank, you mugs’ from the usual nay sayers but, as hard as it is to believe, the Smiths really were the most remarkable band for about five years. The Cure by comparison did some decent stuff but nothing as consistent as imperial phase Smiths.

Ah, now you supporting Spurs makes sense.

Joyce is Glenn Hoddle, good, stylish player who knew how to punt em in, one that all the lahaydies want to shag, sadly tarnished by association. A bit like todays Kane in that regard.
