'i dont know many people who like tunes' ??

this is truer than you'd think

I used to hitch-hike a lot and if they weren't bombarding me with the details of their kitchen extension, or whatever, I'd ask the driver "what music do you like?" and they'd invariably answer "that one on the radio that goes da-da-da-dum" ( this was a long time ago, I doubt some readers will know what a "radio" is )

seems like some people just aren't into tunes

I think the 'tunes' in the Burial interview refers specifically to the London nuum - hardcore, jungle, garage.

It all sounds very contrived though - whoever it was that said recently on here those Burial interviews were made up by Kode 9 & co. were probably right. It's music by someone who was too young to be raving in the 90s and will have primarily come to it through the internet, was totally outside the grime scene, and dubstep will have been the only accessible thing going on at the time in London.

That's not even to knock Burial really, but I think it's true and even dubsteppers would have to admit it.

but if it was referencing the 'nuum then it'd be "choons" surely?

or was that the academic pedantic impulse to correct spelling witnessed in "full effect"?

I'll always remember one of the female contestants on, I think, the very first series of Big Brother saying they didn't like any music at all. I mean, is that even possible?

yeah, in my experience, true

edit: not that i was a big brother contestant or anything, but some people just don't get music... sad, but true

Since I've stopped actively listening to my own music, the annoying thing is that any random tune I happen to hear will become an earworm that gets lodged in my head for days, and it's usually something awful - my neighbour is a moron who blasts out ABBA and Queen on the regular

If you're a person that's into music, and you have an annoying earworm, the only thing you can do is listen to something else to try and displace it.

I had the latest Shakira hit in my head for the last week, only displaced last night by Wham's Enjoy What You Do cos I watched a bit of a documentary on them on Netflix. It's like torture.
