@IdleRich you will appreciate this one.
I never spend a lot on records (I mean, I occasionally pay retail for a new record or cd, but not collector's prices), but the one time I did, it never showed up. bought on discogs in march, didn't arrive in 2-3 weeks so sent the seller a message, no response. waited a few days, sent another message, no response. a few more, no response. and this guy has hundreds of items on sale and has thousands of sales.
eventually, after about three months, he finally responds and says his father is in hospice and he's been taking care of him, etc. says something was wrong with the address and the shipment was returned to him and he hadn't had a chance to resend it but will tomorrow. I feel bad and say "oh man, sorry to hear about your situation, no worries, no rush, whenever you can."
so of course, another month goes by, no package. I start with the messages again, no response. finally, five months after the initial order, I send him a message saying "seems like the best thing to do is cancel the order, don't worry about it". I disputed the charge with PayPal, they immediately refunded the amount while they looked into it with the seller. A day or two later, PayPal tells me the issue has been resolved and the credit stands.
so after five months, I still didn't have the record but at least I got my money back. and then the seller messages me and says "please don't leave negative feedback, since it was resolved amicably", which is a joke because the only reason it was resolved is because I got tired of waiting and filed a dispute with PayPal.
so I go to his
discogs seller page, and his overall rating is in the 90s but for the last year, he's gotten a number of negative reviews, the most common being "placed order, never arrived, messaged seller numerous time, never responds"...exactly what happened to me. one even says "Ludicrously bad seller. This can't be put down to incompetence, to be this bad it must be malicious. No record delivered, doesn't respond to any messages,
lies about item being sent and returned back to him!".
but I can't decide if the guy really has been overwhelmed with his sick father or if he's just become a scammy motherfucker. I like to think the best of people.
