a vax from 6-12 months ago was developed to fight the variant at the time, so stands to reason that it might be less effective against a different new variant a year later, right?

It's not just less effective, it's worse then never having been vaxxed and is enabling transmission - it has become a pandemic of the vaccinated, as was predicted by some academics at the start
