Three chapters in, this is great writing. I love the melding and merging of the cityscape's buildings, signs and lights with the anatomy, and the imagery of ancient and mysterious buildings - temples, ossuaries, necrópolis, megaliths and so on. It gives it a visionary, poetic feel - well, you can tell a poet wrote it rather than a 'novelist':
"Objects acquired unusual aspect, logic suffered, the room was a conundrum."
"There is a cage around the spine and heart."
Also very intrigued about the object thrown through the window

I notice that the title can be read as referring not only to lights in the normal sense, but also to light, i.e. low-tar, cigarettes. (Lambent & Butler, presumably.)

I just read that chapter yesterday but in such a tired, fuzzy headed state it took me till about the letter L before I realised it was alphabetical, lol.
Really enjoying it so far though. Very odd book, don't think I've ever read anything quite like it.
Unreal city.
