anyone who is into politics on socials is a bit weird
If only you guys could see my Instagram, paragraphs and paragraphs worth of captions on my daily hard posts. Usually its something like a picture of Thomas Aquinas accompanied by long meditations on transsexual athletes or BIPOC Dinsey characters. Constant flamewars in the comments, death threats in the DMs, and most of the people in my life who I genuinely care about have blocked me at this point. Small price to pay for being correct about everything.

Somewhere Tim Berners-Lee is reading this, steepling his fingers, a sly smile on his face.

"Just... as... planned."

Uncanny choice of word considering the botched shooting.

Old English wyrd ‘destiny’, of Germanic origin. The adjective (late Middle English) originally meant ‘having the power to control destiny’, and was used especially in the Weird Sisters, originally referring to the Fates, later the witches in Shakespeare's Macbeth ; the latter use gave rise to the sense ‘unearthly’ (early 19th century).

This is a good point. Further, I'd say a lot of people consider there to be good-weird and bad-weird. For example, in the US, society has at least in theory been moving in a generally anti-racist direction since at least the civil rights movement in the 60s, and until recently, even conservative politicians agreed with the consensus that racism was bad. Being openly racist was 'weird.'
Are you referring to Harris putting on blackvoice?

There's no point analysing the Democrats' use of 'weird' or 'fascist' or 'energy' or anything else because it's all just hot air used because they think it will do the job at that particular moment; there's no substance to it at all beyond what it tells you about yourself and what the Democrats' strategists clearly think are your weak points (still waiting for an example of a Republican being 'triggered' by 'weird', though.

You don't think there's any point to debating in politics? So we should just dump PMQs and the house of commons and just vote by email?
I didn't say that and that's not at all what I think. I generally think debates should be of greater import, more strictly moderated and at a higher, more mature level. Sadly however studies show that they tend to have very little effect on voting intentions - I'd compare it to a football match, you might see the other team completely, outplay yours, run rings around them, but that doesn't mean you are gonna switch to supporting them.

That's my general feeling on debates, sadly, and Trump has taken it to the next level. By which I mean almost anyone in the world could out-debate him on almost any subject in the world, they could totally humiliate him, embarrass him to a hitherto unseen extent with even less than the usual effect.

I can see Trump totally losing it, starting as usual with obvious lies and contradicting himself and then utterly breaking down to the extent where he stops using proper words and reverts to a mixture of gibberish and baby language.

In fact he could probably (and in fact one of these days might well) expose himself like one of those monkeys that openly masturbates and flings shit at people when you go to the zoo with your staid great aunt - the one in whose hearing you never use rude rude words cos you know that they will shock her and maybe cause her to faint - and it wouldn't put a single MAGA off.

Now, I'm not In any way saying that's a good thing. Obviously. But even I have to admit that it's somehow Impressive, the way he has somehow sunk to a level so low that he has rendered being out-debated irrelevant. And also how do they know which aunt to target like that.

During a Thursday interview with conservative radio host Clay Travis, Trump attempted to reverse the criticism and said that Democrats were “the weird ones.” He insisted, “Nobody’s ever called me weird. I’m a lot of things, but weird I’m not. And I’m upfront. And he’s not either, I will tell you. J.D. is not at all. They are.”

“We’re not weird people,” Trump added. “We’re we’re actually just the opposite."

Please show evidence that Trump can be demolished like that in a live debate.

I can imagine that a debate like that would have limited impact in moving people across the floor because e.g. Dems/Reps or Cons/Lab have distinct systems of values which voters share or do not share through innate proclivities. Within the right or the left clearly parties can bring about large shifts through being more convincing in articulating those values e.g. shifts between labour/lib dem/green or between conservative and reform.

If Harris turned up to debate with Trump, apologised for being an inattentive Border Czar and laid out measures that were more detailed and rigorous than Trump's then maybe that would move people across the floor.

It’s sunny out Biscetti, lucky if we get another 8 weeks of warm weather

maybe try the left/right game you mentioned a while ago but remember - if you avoid left turns entirely you’ll end up going round in cube-esque circles and what fun is to be found in that

Yes, those infinite loops in the left/right game proper and can only be escaped by spotting a police car.
