I had a pedro ximinez today which I way preferred to the oloroso which was frankly a bit too weird. I loved the sweet one. I asked the Spanish girl and she said its pronounced chiminez. It's a kind of ch sound.

It's not really a ch sound, it's more like a raspy H.

I've come down with a rotten cold so I've loaded up on ibuprofen and a couple of glasses of that oloroso, feeling pleasantly warm and fuzzy now

I love fortified wines, much more than other wines, at least so far.

Not wine-related, but I'm actually thinking about making applejack (distilled hard cider essentially, and actually America's oldest alcohol industry apparently). Anyone here ever do any home distilling?

My working definition of 'sherry' is any fortified wine made in southern Spain. Ridiculous amount of options here.

But red vermouth, ice, slice of orange is a good slow drink.

i don't think i ever tried a sherry, it does also remind me of grandmas and strong perfume indeed. i'll try one soon.
Sherry, to me, is a drink for old ladies with blue hair.

I just asked Google for a picture of an old lady with blue hair and it gave me this Lovecraftian abomination:

I think Benny should probably quit while he's ahead.

Very misunderstood wine is sherry.

Since we mentioned vermouth,I went to a vermuteria in Rota yesterday and had a really expensive (3.50€ when it's usually a out 1.50) fennel infused one. Very pleasant, still sweet but with a dry finish, done properly with the slice of orange, ice and an olive on a stick.
