Starmer has his faults but I wouldn't really say he's like Trump. He's a whole different kind of disappointment.

On a more positive note

Ángela rayner as secretery of state 🤪

Apparently this will be the most working class government in history.... no more being governed by a cabal of rich Etonians who all know each other and know nothing about the average UK citizen.

yeah i like her on a vibes level, she reminds me a lot of my sister. i looked through the wikipedias of some of the shadow cabinet at some point and they are a lot less posh than a government would usually be. i see that at one of the few good things about the incoming government. who knows how that will translate into actual decision making. remains to be seen.

Yeah, worrying. They're coming 2nd and 3rd in a lot of seats and taking a lot of votes off the Tories.
Up to Labour now to actually speak to these voters about some of the things they're upset about (but not "too many darkies" I hope) if they wanna prevent Reform doing better next time around. That's what Farage does. He makes them feel listened to (as well as pandering to their prejudices)I wonder if the Tories Levelling Up agenda and deregionalisation might've done it if taken seriously.

It'll be interesting to see what the effect ID requirement had. The Tories' plan of vote suppression seems to have reduced the big Labour majorities in the inner cities, but that made no real difference because Labour obviously won those seats anyway. It doesn't seem to have had much effect elsewhere. And hopefully Labour will scrap it now anyway.

I think the fact they won those seats anyway and that scrapping it would open them up to Tory attacks re: encouraging voter fraud means they'll be hesitant to scrap it.
