so it seems from this perspective that the term is a retcon from a misspelling/mistranslation (of alkabilyeh the Arabic word for the non-arab parts of North "Africa") (by a western orientalist), discovered by afrocentric scholars like Cheikh Anta Diop and now adopted by people outside the continent as well as maybe a few in Africa/Alkebulan itself,
but obvs that is a perspective based on racist western traditions and institutions. i don't see any direct continuity back to pre-colonial times tho, i suppose it could be a survival in oral sources rather than written literatures?
