No, albeit there are hadiths which state that one is in an intoxicated state worthy of the 40 flogging treatment when one cannot tell man from woman. evidently a problem some users
on this forum suffer from sober.

According to that hadith, I've never merrited 40 lashes, but then again, I've usually passed out before mistaking someones gender or sex. A useful skill. It might also be that when I was drinking, I prefered to drink alone.

Was there not some Iman who argued that the ban is not on alcohol itself merely on being intoxicated, so drinking but not actually being drunk is fine?
I know some Muslims who are monsters for all other drugs but teetotal cos the other substances are not specifically mentioned.

I'm pretty sure they had wine in 6th century Arabia. And distillation was discovered by Muslim alchemists, although it was probably us degenerate Europeans who first thought of consuming the product.
