Sometimes people bond over their misery, like being stuck in a shit job or spending hours in a hospital waiting room
i imagine chekhov is offering a corrective to the sentimental view of the kindliness of the afflicted

it's true that at least half the time the unhappy will be filled with rage, especially towards bankside poets

Spunds lame who says 'wither'

There was a conference held in the early 90s called "Whither Marxism?" debating whether Marxism still had anything left in the tank. It's where Derrida delivered the lectures which became Specters of Marx.

Perhaps it's ideological blindness due to having grown up completely immersed in it, but liberalism seems like it takes less effort to maintain than other ideologies. There's a certain amount of policing in any system, but I get the sense letting people sort of do what they want isn't as much of a tightrope as trying to maintain a totalitarian system.

Once things start to get difficult, mind you, the mask comes off.

Let's Talk About Ceps
There was that book about the difference between liberals and conservatives and how it all centres in disgust. They've done experiments with liberal and conservative mice that found that the conservatives felt sick at the sight of a discarded crisp wrapper while the liberal mice would happily roll around in their own shit.
So the difference isn't down to eekonimics at all?
