Do you like Paul Auster? I was talking about these guys to a friend yesterday and I realised how much I prefer him to Delilo

I've read New York Trilogy, Oracle Night and 4321. I always enjoy reading them, but can never remember anything after I finish them.

Strange question, has anyone read any of those Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child?

A while ago I read an article about him that had all these people saying how great they were including a couple of literary authors (I forget who) saying - although they avoided the term - that he was their guilty pleasure, and lots of other people wee saying they weren't surprised cos his stuff is clearly superior to all the other stuff which you think is like that.

So I was sort of interested but not interested enough to proactively seek the books out. Yesterday my mum was taking a pile of books to the charity shop and a couple of them were Reachers... so I started reading, so far it's OK but really it's exactly as I thought. What am I missing?

My mother has all the Jack Reacher novels, including those written by Lee Child's son

Was this the article you read?

The majority of the people in that article who rate those books are ladies of a certain age - that's probably why you're not getting the appeal...you're not the target audience

I'm actually not sure if it was that article but it might as well have been... women of a certain age... and Haruki Murrakami!

Nothing @IdleRich you’re not the audience ah I see Bill just posted

Our dentist has them in the waiting room. Hasn’t the cunt heard of .. magazines? Who reads a book waiting/during dental work - “yes, please excuse our drilling out your face while you try to read Jack Reacher”

When they do have magazines they pick bad ones anyway, should be Viz, Private Eye maybe but it's always Horse and Hound or Good Housekeeping.

When I was arrested years ago I spent more than 24 hours in a cell cos they were too understaffed to interview me. I said please I'm going mad here do you have anything, anything to read.

They eventually found a manky copy of Shock Wave by Clive Cussler, I read more than half of it but they wouldn't let me keep it so I had to read what happened in the end on Wikipedia or something.

The one I'm reading is The Sentinel by LEE CHILD and ANDREW CHILD

According to Conn Iggulden it's "Classic Reacher, great story. Brilliant"
