"Naked emporers"Which Sewell volume is that, Jack?
Seriously? Wtf!?I sent it twice
Yes tell us about Woops's bookIncludes @woops latest (very good) novel. Happy to talk about any of them if anyone interested
I hope you like it. I must admit I found post Felt Lawrence less interesting. That perverse love of all that cheap 70s tat that those of us who lived through it didnāt want to repeat.
Iām guessing Lawrence is partial to the odd lie with regard to how old he was and what he can remember- it fits the narrative heās created about the past and the 70s in particular. He did famously write a very rude letter to Peel asking for his single back as he hadnāt played it. And Peel did return it. Again it fits his story that everyone was against him.I'm enjoying this - although I'm puzzled, Lawrence is 15 in 1977 when punk hits Brum, he is 12 when he first hears Marc Bolan in 1972, he is 12 in 1974 when the IRA blow up a pub in Birmingham - is he continually lying about his age or was the book in need of a proofreader with a memory that exceeds that of a goldfish?
I wish there was more on the detour into a "needle strewn alleyway on the path to fame"
edit: he is definitely lying when he says that Felt were never played on the John Peel show, I used to have a tape that disproves that
I was assuming it was running joke throughout the book that Lawrence is lying about his ageIām guessing Lawrence is partial to the odd lie with regard to how old he was and what he can remember- it fits the narrative heās created about the past and the 70s in particular. I do still listen to Primitive Painters and wonder how come it wasnāt more well known though.
sadly i missed the irl Futurological Congress in costa rica last year which the book seems to uncannily prefigure, apart from the hallucinations. maybe![]()
