There was a thing you said in the Alien thread which was something about assuming a work of art was the best thing ever and then writing to justify that - that's what I'm talking about. But you have a self-awareness at least... I'm not joking about K-punk (RIP and all that), when I read his criticism of anything I always had a strong sense that the artwork was basically incidental, just a thing he would use to hang his ideas about the evils of capitalism on. It never felt like a genuine response to the thing.I think I'm doing a little more than that, I'm trying to attribute intentionality and sophistication, as a premise, and then reason from there, as an experiment
I think it was baudrillard who said (something like) "the only thing anyone collects is themself" and I hear that, of course your taste is a reflection of yourself and the more you refine it, the more specific it is - but I really found the k-punk style of picking a thing and then using it as a prism through which to refract his views as a masturbatory step beyond that.
And of course I don't think you're like that Gus
