The lowest of the low is the 'litrona', a litre of Cruzcampo which you see homeless people drinking in the street cos its so cheap (1.50 euros). As soon as you open it all the gas escapes so you're left with a whole litre of rapidly warming lifeless liquid to get through.

Large one litre bottle, screw cap, tepid and lifeless contents, discarded and smashed on the pavement, the absolute nadir of beer drinking

My mate once did it with his own empty beer just sat in his bedroom with a couple of us. He'd been ashing joints and cigs into it all night and had the one he was drinking from next to it. A disaster waiting to happen.
Epic self-own.

I think this is a coming-of-age thing. You can't officially graduate to manhood unless this has happened to you at least once.

Another one I've done's doing Tequila shots and accidentally grabbing the lemon slice a mate had just put down.

Apparently there's no museums about the Spanish civil war in Madrid

They refer to it as "la gran pelea educada", which to me feels like they're downplaying it slightly
They've never had a 'reckoning', it's this like this huge thing lurking in the background that they've never properly faced up to or dealt with.

Yeah, I suppose shame is as good a motivator as any. The fact they try to cover it up isn't great though, particularly when it comes to relations with countries whose people were victims of the stuff.

The best way to drink beer in Spain is to go to one of those little bars where you can sit in the sunshine and they bring it to you in glasses that have been kept in a special freezer, so not only does it help keep your beer cold but the glasses instantly acquire this attractive coating of frost.

The same bars will generally bring you a little bowl of snacks for nothing, which is great business sense because it costs them pennies but encourages you to stay there, being made hungry by the beer and then made thirsty again by the salty snacks, and it's good for you too because it helps slow the rate at which you get drunk.

That's where I am right now

I'm tucking into today's offering from my beer advent calendar (best wife ever, or what?), which is a 5.5% stout brewed from barley, wheat and oats and is from Sweden.

Yes, it's from a can, but I think strongly flavoured craft beers probably suffer much less from tasting 'cannish' than your supermarket lagers.

I'm having altramuces or as they're called here 'chochitos' (' little pussies'). I don't even like them but they're salty so you just keep eating them anyway

You don't really get free tapas in Seville - that's Granada or Madrid - but there's a legendary bar here with the absolute best beer that gives you a tapa of monkey nuts with every drink.

I was in Cologne years ago and were sitting in the flat of a lad we bought from when he brought out a Hitler sticker album from the 30s that he'd bought at a second hand market.

Weird atmosphere, I think he had assumed we were something we weren't - I was just going bald, not a skinhead. Anyway strange atmosphere

Re:
I went to cologne a few years ago to visit some friends, and i was impressed by how tidy they are. People still drink bottles in the streets and the park on a nice day, but they actually tidy up after themselves, so different to Spain. My barrio's an absolute tip, they just litter and leave dog shit and rubbish everywhere without a second thought.

Must feel like you've never left the UK!
