Who is that then?

Ahaha. Oh, no-one. :)

Do you know how many of us London-types are going to the party on the 24th? I'd hate to get there and find it populated solely by, well, you know. The sort of people who were there last time. (Chili Peppers covers, anyone?)

I can see why you might think that, I'm of the opinion that she was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century but I'm aware that I'm in a minority on that one. Thanks for a nice afternoon everyone! x

Anyone who thinks I'm to all intents and purposes a rapist for watching a bit of porn every now and then can fuck off. End of story.

i don't think that. dworkin i think was talking about sexual imagery and how it affects cultural attitudes toward women. some people think all violent images are pornography.

Ok, what's worse. Open question.

Having a modicum of unwanted attention (not severe stalking, rape, harrassment, etc) such as being chatted up all the time, the occasional crush on you, maybe the odd pinch on the arse or dirty comment.

OR

Never recieving any sort of sexual interest from anyone which is pretty much the position I'm in now. Personally, I wouldn't mind feeling a bit awkward in those situations if it meant that I also received welcome sexual attention.

Sorry if anybody thinks I'm trivialising the matter. I'm NOT saying it's okay for people to do this stuff to women (or men, even.)

I worked in shops / bars / cinemas for years, and as such one is a very vulnerable target when it comes to abject and misplaced adoration by members of the general public, a sitting duck, really. Three I remember fondly were

....signed set of Oblique Strategies. That'd test a relationship.

Swears m8! Me and my mates found the trick to getting sexual attention was not to be fussy. Works every time.

Pffft, the revolution of lowered expectations, eh?

I think it's a perfectly good question. I've known women who go on and on about what a terrible ordeal it is to have blokes coming on to you - I can certainly understand that it's uncomfortable or annoying if some drunk twat is persistently making an arse of himself despite being given clear indications that his attentions aren't welcome, but it's a bit off to get in a huff whenever someone makes a polite, friendly attempt at conversation. You never know, he might just be interested in a conversation of the sake of it!

Then again, given that I do my very best not to be a drunken, lecherous boor, and am in any case 'out of practice' at courtship thanks to being in a relationship, maybe I'm giving the average horny single bloke too much credit...

nah as far as i remember women can be most cruel to men who make an effort to chat to them even when they are polite and charming.

That's because they have to give a very clear signal they're not interested, otherwise they might end up being hounded by the man for hours. Although this is taken to extreme lengths by young women who find pleasure in it. Being seen to reject men is definately a status thing with some young women. Whether the man is even flirting with them or not. Many a time I've stood next to a girl at the bar simply because that was the only available spot and all I wanted was a drink, and the girl has made a huge show of finding me unattractive: chilly looks, disgusted sneers, etc. I mean, fucking grow up.

I can see why you'd say that, but far from lowering ones expectations, I prefer to see it as a revolution in seeing the beautiful and sexual qualities inherent in every human being. Instead of looking at someone and thinking 'urgh, I bet you're an ugly bitter misogynist' or 'wow, what a queen', seeing 'they've got really nice eyes' or ' i bet they've got an arse like a blender'.

Y'know, i've got lots of friends who moan about no-one ever fancying them or never getting laid, but when you point out people to them, they pick holes in them, it's about seeing the good in everyone rather than the faults. Is that the same as lowering expectations? God maybe it is.

Sorry, but I fail to see how 'being less fussy' is not the same thing as 'having lowered expectations'. I mean, everyone has certain ideas about what they find attractive in the opposite (or the same) sex, don't they? You either fancy someone, or you don't. It's outside of your conscious control. If you can see the 'beautiful and sexual qualities inherent in every human being', then I'm very pleased for you, but I think it's sheer self-delusion to think that all people are equally attractive. You might as well assert that all people are equally intelligent, or equally tall.

The concept of having 'an arse like a blender' fills with me a nameless fear.
