i'm somewhat disturbed by how many screen prints look like bad tattoos. especially because the people who wear these things often have full-body arm, back, and neck tatts already. it's big with the puerto rican dudes.

I think the European brands that ravers (me included) took to their hearts, kick started the craze.

Chevignon, Chipie and Naf Naf spring to mind.

They said things like "class of '76 sport lovers, yeah" and "dream the life, live it well. Go Go Go".

I went to Harvey Nichols a few years ago to treat myself to a nice top. I ended up with the ONLY garment in the shop that didn't appear to have been torn at by angry monkeys and squirted with bleach.

And those jeans that have heavy rub marks on the thighs. WTF.

I feel myself getting the urge to say things to people like "Wow, what was it like to be a lifeguard on Long Beach in 1972? And you must look after yourself very well, you like you weren't even born then!"

Even when these signs refer to something real they're usually redundant. I used to rib mates wearing self-congratulatory university kit around college - 'I didn't know you were a student here! Oxford; really? Ooh, that's impressive.'

Having said that, I've seen ppl who've never been to prestigious unis wear college scarves to impress. Terrible.

I feel like a complete prat wearing stuff that celebrates actual 'success.'

Reflected fictional glory is almost tolerable in comparison.

I have a theory that wearing t-shirts with drawings of sexy ladeez on them is good for pulling women, as they start feeling competitive. Just more advertising to create positive associations with the brand of you. Urgh.

Actually my new clubbing outfit is a Roman toga, laurel wreath, Raybans and a big, early 90s pair of Reeboks.
