Goodness - could this be Arsenal's year for the Champion's League, after all the detractors have pilloried them for most of the season? Or will there only be one English side in the last four? It's all VERY interesting now.

It looked like the same old thing - team that plays neat passing football outplays side that doesn't (not that Utd can't, but they weren't on it yesterday from what I saw)

Three of the four goals came from laughably bad defensive mistakes - Tevez's being the exception. But Porto do look really good, that one crazy lapse aside.

Rooney's goal was a comendy masterpiece. The guy looking the other way as he passes the ball back... I liked how Rooney basically didn't celebrate the goal, too, just some hand slapping. Entirely proper, though I can't imagine Ronaldo reacting similarly.

In fact, Ronaldo (NEWS JUST IN!) was a disgrace last night. Every time he gave the ball away, he complained, and not once did he chase back.

It was one of the best games I've seen in ages, even if there were a lot of unforced errors. That all just adds to the spectacle. Both sides really went for it.

Yeah, it was a really good game. Agreed that all of the goals except the Tevez one were the result of comedy defending.

You can always tell when Ronaldo's off his game - it's when the aw diddums arm-waving exceeds unnecessary stepovers by a factor of 2:1

Ronaldo didn't have a good game last night. And i don't like the guys general attitude.

but have to disagree with this:

not once did he chase back.

I remember seeing him chasing back to support the right back (O'Shea / Neville) a couple of times - and thinking that people always bang on about him not supporting the defence. Not true in this instance!

More generally though, Porto were excellent; their three attackers - Rodriguez, Lopez and the 'Hulk' were a total handful, a lot of direct running and clever link play. I think they deserved to go in at half time at least two goals clear.

And in the second half when Utd upped their game a bit, Porto's defensive midfielder - Fernando was a rock. He's only young - definitely one to watch for the future on this showing.

Can United do what no English team has ever done: go and win in the intimidating Estádio do Dragão? Should be a another feast of football...

Fair enough. He didn't track back for the goal, though.

Yeah, every time Porto had the ball the three of them (and others) were tearing off in different directions making runs and losing their markers. They were getting more bodies forward than United. The goal at the end was a soft one but it would have been unfair if they had lost.

He was utterly brilliant, man of the 2nd half without doubt. I was convinced the Great Satan who sits on united's shoulder was gonna penalise him for that brilliant tackle at the end by turning the resulting free kick into a goal.
