Silly to even bother, yeah, but he did get the ball. Not arsed about the penalty, but it's a bit snide on Fletcher after he's done well for us this season.

Could be worse though, eh!

This is one of the most depressing games I've ever seen.

After eight minutes, despair.

After ten minutes, futility.

that was one of the bleakeast games i've seen too, and i saw wimbledon lose horribly on wet evenings in january on a number of occasions. in selhurst fucking park. that's how bad it was.

i was in what's normally a properly rowdy arsenal pub too.. after just ten minutes totally winded, like the team. poor gibbs, i thought he looked more resilient after the slip up, until he was subbed.. he's not old or good enough yet though clearly. the team just couldn't lift their heads after ronaldo's free kick, i can't help but feel someone with arshavin's form and vigour, rather than ade (who played like a man that's been talking to papers about a summer transfer move), would have given it a go at least, lifted the crowd and therefore the team with some invention and half-chances. cesc and theo didn't rise to be that guy either (evra owned the latter) - it was GRIM from an arsenal pov. and probably not much fun for neutrals either.

by the end we were singing songs of defiance and petulance about ronaldo going to madrid, and 'you're going down with the dollar' and 'we don't need a bailout / we don't need a bailout / na na na na' etc. ahem. also a few pro-barcelona and henry songs - innit tom ;)

ade (who played like a man that's been talking to papers about a summer transfer move),

And what was he saying, something about Milan being as sexy as Beyonce? He must have a thing for late-30s Mediterranean men.

and theo didn't rise to be that guy either

Theo just isn't that guy, period. Good for a few speed breaks, but lightweight,no killer instinct and weak on crossing. I have a nasty feeling we're gonna look back on that Croatia game in a few years and wonder what happened to that kid.

Why all the doom and gloom from everyone? I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed that match.

"with the fletcher thing, i don't reckon it's as clean cut as the commentators are making out - he's pulling him long before he touches the ball. but foul or not you don't need to give a red, it's prissy refereeing. silly tackle for fletcher to even bother making really though."
Didn't look like that to me, he reached across him and toed the ball away fair and square. I appreciate that it was hard (impossible?) for the referee to see that from directly behind (despite what the studio pundits said) but in that case I think he ought to give the benefit of the doubt. A tragic ending for the Scottish Play(er).

Darned cockwombles.
It did look a bit like men against boys, last night.

But then I guess it was. Arsenal desperately need a heavyweight midfield destructor on that showing. And a forward who isn't Adebayor and actually tries. What they'd give for Drogba...

yeah, me too. he's good with the ball at his feet, but that's it - his movement's amateur, and he never really looks like he wants the ball. look how often rooney beat him to headers he wasn't favourite for, in both legs, at either end of the pitch.

rip this joint please
gutted for Gibbs and Fletcher's tackle was excellent, the referee was just wrong, plain and simple.

that said, from behind he looked like he got up a bit high so i can understand the man doing that.
a fairly fiddly performance from the ref really, not the best overall, fuck me if Fletcher got a red for that then Adebayor might as well have got one for going in on Carrick.

i thought Clive T was going to start hyper-ventilating when the Scottish Play(er) got his marching orders, i've not heard a reaction from a commentator like that since Pleat rightly got upset with that daft decision that went against Italy versus the Netherlands.

(do you remember how the authorities covered their arses later with that one, with some pathetic 'technically correct, laws of the game' shout, wrt a very similar occurrence in a Swiss league match prior. poo biscuits.)

(edit: you are quite right Cracker, he should try a little at least to rein his obvious biases in. him and blatant Liverpool fan Green need to STFU a bit sometimes.)

Clive Tyldesley getting over-excited about a Man Yoo game? Whoda thunk it etc etc

Just to strike a note of dissent, I think that Walcott has come on a lot and, at times, he looks like the finished article. When he's playing well and he's running at people with purpose then he scares the shit out of defenders. His problem is consistency rather than a lack of ability to reach the required level.
