it sounds to me like mak 10 and marcus were sending for bossman on that set.

"hold tight selector boring"

then mak 10 gets marcus to stop the record and goes "hold tight perempay..... nah never mind i was gonna start but, fuck it"

or something like that

sending in funky... isn't that missing the point of funky!? or, isn't that funky deviating from it's raison d'etre?

that would be Geeneus' raison d'etre yh? I'm sure there are as many reasons for the shift to funky as there are 'ex-grime' crew in funky.

Fierce competition is nothing new in House either, Lil' Louis used to pressure Marshell Jefferson into not passing his tunes out to any other DJs cos they were both from the same 'side' of Chicago.

I assumed this is just standard pirate banter, all in good fun & in part tongue in cheek. There is abit in a Crazi Cousinz show where dramas surrounding a certain DJ & access to a DJ Naughty remix are aired 'indirectally' Those 'Say No...' flyers? All the same thing isn't it?

Nice work! Finally got my grubby digital-djing fingers on Gabryelle refix ;)

Check out the DJ Mystery tunes as well & 'Green Light' by Footsteps, big tune!

'Quicktime' by DJ Naughty went up yesterday as well for anyone that didn't get it on 12"

The guys running ukfunky.com are tip-top as well! Can't recommend the store enough!!

Perempay's selection is quite dull though, considering he's ex-grime.

Considering his old shows on Rinse, I'd be checking for a pulse! If Mak10 can stir him up abit & re-light that fire. Get him selecting & mixing house the way he did grime... oh my. His shows were nuts! Competition lines, chatting with listeners over the air, even with no MCs in the studio he used to bring SO much energy.

Best bit I can remember from a show, playing that Ripperman tune, comes on the mic,

'There's no light in the studio... I feel like I'm DJing in a rave!'

I swear Spyro nicked that 'I'm mixing from here' 'Start tapeing from now!' off Bossman didn't he?

Edit;

Also,

Where is the 'funky' version of 'Bongo Eyez'!?!

yeah i've been really impressed with the ukfunky shop. selection's ramping up quickly and the service is really good. hopefully invasion will hop in with them since their site has flaked out. and if the naughty tune is a sign that spoilt rotten is board then that bodes well.

the mystery, x5 and minikingz tunes are floating my boat right now.

bandz ahoy
67 mins into the marcus/mac10 set - ''one time for your mind'' and some dirrrt bassline

I must admit a lot of this stuff all blends into one indistinguishable mass to me but there's quite a few tunes in this set that make me prick my ears up and ears my prick up

Wicked early-warp sounds on some of the tracks on the Mak10/Marcus set...one track that pitches a vocal around like Forgemasters.

Must say I was a bit dubious about this stuff coming through at the beginning, but after checking a few mixes, it's really starting to grow on me. I'd be interested to hear how this goes when they really start pushing the riddims out into more challenging african polyrhythm vibes.

The sound aesthetic's really appealing to me too, cause it sounds to me to be more about using presets and concentrating on the music more rather than putting the emphasis on sound design and perfect mixdowns which I've always found to be the endgame of most dead genres.
