To continue the offtopic, the classic problem of "not being able to play too quiet tracks because otherwise you have to gain it into red area", would be solved simply by gaining up the systems volume, and putting loud overcompressed tracks down in dj mixer. Though then their flatness would be better heard, but hey, they are FLAT!

Then there would be another problem, if dj gets excited too much and puts volume louder in dj mixer when the system is loud already, it would be too loud. But then there should be always somebody keeping an eye on that this isn't going to happen, you know, making some effort for the event!

But, it will clip the Digital to Analog convertors on the CDJ. Your software won't tell you that tho. This is where it gets tricky. Differant digital meters measure differant things.

yeah of course, i hope you didn't take that as something i was recommending!

interesting post, thank you :)

obviously house music is this huge thing, and this question is probably quite naive

im sure it's been talked about before but to what extent do you think the uk house scene could overlap with other more established house scenes, is that even desirable, and does format have a role to play in that? a

Nobody's really picked up on this. I can't either really as I know fuck all about house music in general but I'm sure someone on here must have something to say about it.

I'm just listening to a D Malice mix slackk posted up and there's Dennis Ferrer tunes and I'm sure some other non-UK tunes in there. I suppose the question is, is it going to work the other way around, with non-funky DJs slotting D Malice and HH Banton tunes into their sets?

yeah how i should have worded that is to what extent could it be absorbed or appropriated by existing scenes. could it filter through if the mechanics of its distribution become more similar to those of more established areas of house music.

doom wrote some nice stuff about it

are the cd-only tracks on geeneus's album worth getting? i got the vinyl.

I bought the cd for the mix. The only one I rate that isn't on the vinyl is Make Me and I wouldn't say it was essential. Depends on if you already have Emotions on vinyl or a spare tenner?

I think Funky sounds best when its pitched up and mixed in with grime and garage, like on that Spyro b2b Maximum set someone posted on here a while back. Thats an amazing set, much more energetic than the Marcus Nasty sets I've heard.

Are any DJs doing this out in the clubs in London, or do they all play at the 130bpm tempo? I know Blackdown's already talked about the prospect of a tempo race inevitably happening. Is it happening already even?

Things are definitely getting interesting anyway...

I agree

Only person really is Spyro. I aint seen maximum in a club for ages doing a solo set, if ever actually. But I suppose thats what he does out in napa all summer.

whats the deal with these?? im really frustrated because, taking the example of frontline, i didnt pre order because they didnt even say when it was meant to come in stock. then i found out that they'd already come and gone. Now it doesn't say when the full release is!! bare annoying.

his cd is dropping soon as well which is likely not to feature the tracks off the vinyl.

'cuse the ignorance, but what's the name + artist for the tune that DJ Mystery plays lots... the one that goes 'do i saaaay, not as i do' in the chorus?

that's a BIG tune.
