I just caught myself 'air conducting' while listening to a jazz record, which is exactly what my dad does.

when i need a wee, i've been told that i hold my willy in a vain (vein?) attempt to prolong the inevitable piss stop, as does my dad.

All about pride and egos
I tend to yawn at the very top of my lungs so everyone within 100 yards can hear it, which is something my Dad does.

Bill Hicks has a really funny bit about how you know you are becoming your father when you are sitting in your armchair, legs crossed, with your arm inexplicably sitting on top of your head with your hand dangling down next to your face.

I have learnt everything I know about being Very Cross At Children from my Dad.

Now I need to learn to calm down a bit.

Interested in Matt's comments above. Me becoming my Dad or not has become a bit of an obsession of my partner...

i have long ago taken every precaution to never, ever turn into my old man. it has completely worked , and will continue to. i do not intended to behave or think in any way, shape, or form even slightly resembling anything he ever did or thought.

this is so important for me and i have done it for so long that years ago it became a non-issue, and i never ever think about it -- in fact this thread is the first thing that reminded me of this in maybe 5 years.

Why is that Zhao?
As far as I can tell I'm not that much like my parents. I mean, in appearance I guess I take after my mum more than my dad but I have pretty different attitudes from them in regard to lots of things. Of course having different attitudes doesn't mean that I am different, I may have arrived at those by being similar to them and reacting in the the way they would have done but just done that in different circumstances with the result of cosmetic differences in our personalities.
Actually, I've noticed that there is something I do which my dad does. Sometimes, when I'm supposed to do something but he knows that I won't have got round to it he will nag me in quite an annoying way by saying something like "So, what did they say when you rang up to find out about the gas bill?" or whatever it is when he knows full well that you won't have rung them. It's really annoying and I use the same thing on people when I want to piss them off and shame them into doing something.

I look a lot like my dad and sound almost exactly like him. When people used to ring our house for me, they'd think it was me when he answered and vice versa. I don't really mind turning into my dad, he's actually kinda cool and funny as far as dads go. Apparently he was a bit of a soulboy back in the day, and hated hippies. So bonus points for that.

Talking gobbledegook in the absent-minded kinda way that most people whistle. My dad wasn't one for poetry, but he knows his Lewis Carroll better than the bible.

That and the odd sopt of road rage are the most noticeable traits I've picked up from him.

That level of obsessiveness is dangerous talk - you sound like the eldest son in The Corrections.;)

for mine too. whenever we go down and see my dad, C and my step mum have the same conversation about how alike we are. Then i get it on the way back home as well.

i've got used to zoning out, so i will ask C for some further examples tonight.
