Decent places to stay / hotels in Berlin

Family Eden is off there for a week soon and as usual I have left off booking where we stay.

Any tips?

Somewhere central and not too cheap / not too expensive would be ideal.

Needs to be reasonably kid friendly.

Oh man, I used to read Datacide years ago from my breakcore hideout! woo! had no idea they had a conference. heee.

for hotels, not sure, since I was mostly a couch-surfer when I was there.
there's a hostel right on the prenslauer berg/mitte line - I think on Kastanienallee, that might also be a hotel.. but I can't remember the name.

also, do you mean "central" as in central to the middle of Berlin? Or do you mean central to the good stuff? because the center-east is pretty much where it's at, in my book.

not that you should neglect to the Kollwitz museum, but I wouldn't want to stay over there.

would suggest looking for apartment rather than hotel. Possibly cheaper and a bit more flexible...

No tips from me I'm afraid but conference sounds interesting - what's your talk going to be about? Or maybe you don't want to spoil it by giving it away in advance.

i have asked my GF for hotel ideas but she has not yet gotten back to me... now it looks like you've found a place. she did say it shouldn't be difficult.

how old is your kid? great museums here, i've only been to the anthropology one where i saw great Sumerian and Islamic Art exhibitions. really want to go to the natural history and art museums also. the zoo is of course very famous... where you can see the racist baby polar bear.

beer gardens are kid friendly (no really), and it's not yet so cold that people stop going to them, might be good for a sunday afternoon.

for at least one night after you've tucked the family in you should come out and check out the Berlin order-drinks-until-7AM bar and clubs i will be back if i hear of any good shows (seem to remember you liking reggae... )
