I forgot how big this show was for the first 3 series or so. And it wasnt just the X-Files, the show almost single handedly gave birth to a massive industry peddling tales about UFO abductions and so on.

Looking through that page, it appears that someone really did commit suicide after watching the show. On a suicide related tip, who remembers the rumour that 2 Unlimited died in a car accident. Sounds about right. Maybe it's just that I was 16 in 1997 and that's roughly when I started to become aware of irony as a form of cultural currency.

Like twats who say "Aren't earwigs really '80s?" as if that's a funny, ironic thing - no you numpties, it's just that you'd grown out of looking under rotten logs by 1991.

80s has been done to death and anything after '96 is too soon, imo. So we're drawing our inspiration from the 89-95 era, here. Don't bring up cool stuff or genres like Jungle or Garage that are too obvious and already curated/canonised enough. Rock is out of the question because it was already retro by then in the first place.

It's sad but typical how this thread starts with swears being really very prescient and astute then immediately descends into basic nostalgia triggers with no attempt to address the premise of the thread. Absolutely moronic and clueless.

There was also a Trump supporter who was an expert troll. He started a huge argument by saying he slept with loads of liberal women and that Pynchon was actually right wing.
