I like this film for the very reasons given in the article, that it’s a critique of…didn’t know it had been received with ovations in the mid west for waterboarding - this can be a problem of filmmaking when you’re stating something and it gets projected upon by audience emotion, in this instance as pro violence propaganda…Haven’t watched it for a long time so can’t comment further. (Bigelow choreographs crowd violence well♥️… but is herself an appropriator of white male power through the unfeminist means of marriage, which is problematic but then again maybe feminist to seize power?…I went to a Lizzy Borden talk once, she said NYC white straight male downtown artists back then (she was a Bigelow contemporary) would give money to the (white straight?) women artists to help them because of the pay/ job gap). I guess Bigelow might have handed the movie to co-direct with an Afghan woman director but that wasn’t her mission![]()

I don't disagree but I feel that that is quite a big ask.Actually we need some Afghan women of all different wealth brackets/ urban/ rural/ ages plus Feminist & gender theorists on here to make this discussion rigorous or at least real.
Oh I should have read on a bit.there's never been a single woman of any background on this forum as far as i can remember so that might be a tall order there
