Vice's whole angle/interest in jackin' presumably arose from its connections, however tenuous, with a load of people being stabbed in a club.

Extra points if they dressed funny and took some new deadly form of drug, procured from Congolese death squads (who are obsessed with the music of Snow Patrol).

I don't know much about the Leeds side of things, but re: Birmingham, when I interviewed Lorenzo he said that the first jackin tune was Come With Me, which came about from a session/discussion he had with Jayye Jackin and Dappa D, where they talked about mixing a bassline bass with a house beat.

You"re right that it has nothing to do with bassline MCs getting agro. It's one part of the history I'm a bit shakey on, because I lost the interview/was massively hung over when I took the interview, but it seems that Loz's intro to the scene was via the Sunday daytime party GLAS, which was the first time he took MDMA and heard house. I asked him how it could be that he was famous for making such bouncy sexy beats with Cause & Affect but he stared making such aggressive, industrial sounding bassline with Dub Melitia and he just joked and said "I had a bad childhood"


LOOL, I like how the Vice Article quotes my article calling jackin ""grime's northern cousin", even though that's not a phrase at all said in the article.

Banging mix Benny just listening at the moment. Best one of your Lorenzo mixes I've heard. Those SIC tracks at the start are proper raw sounding. Recognise hearing some of them a while back. Reckon there are a ton of badman Jackin' beats buried on Big Tunes and SC still.

glad you like it man. between the 5 volumes thats 121 tracks from the last 2-3 years, every one a banger imo.
