Haha. Will give it a go then.
The real problem here for me is that not that Rinse/Ammunition wanted sole distribution of their own radio shows, but that they've done it very poorly in the past (Rinse always down etc) and Deapoh has done it so brilliantly. If they end up offering a comparable level of service to Barefiles it would be almost forgivable, but I'd be surprised if they manage that, and I suspect the music will the loser here. Plus there were all sorts of compromises that could be reached.
What I don't get, is why on earth Ammo&co would want to organise the hosting of their radiosets, if they can have both organisation and bandwidth arranged by someone else for free?
this is what I don't understand:
As a (non-subscription based) station, rinse are not selling the radio stream to the public in the first place. They are selling ad space (and dj slots) that are only made more valuable by having them archived and sent out to a larger audience. Why in the world would you not welcome someone who dramatically enlarges the market reached by your advertisers and DJs? Isn't that the whole point of a radio station? If you had a legal FM station and some superfan decided to set up a second transmitter that doubles the number of people who hear your station, what possible reason is there for telling him to cease and desist? you already give the signal away for free to as many people as you can
If djs on rinse want to contribute to barefiles they should do it under different circumstances without the association of rinse.
i suspect that'll be what he has up his sleeve
in the extract he posted though...
"The only site/host/place that ANY Rinse sets or sets from Rinse FM
artists; including pre-records, recordings of the stream, live
events , performances, interviews (and any other) across all formats
will ONLY be available from an official Rinse site from now on (i.e.
rinse.fm and for the avoidance of doubt this means not on Barefiles)"
there are ways round this that he's aware of
New question:
Why does Deapoh want to continue running barefiles for no pay? What exactly does he get out of barefiles when he refuses another organization's offer to run it for him and pay him for his trouble?
