yeah that cassy track is top.

scottish crowds are ok -- subclub is great, amazing vibe in that place. we are electric is shit -- the resident djs are awful. i've had a good time there for guests before but it's definitely been in spite of the crowd, who i've noticed tend to react the most to the tunes i dislike the most, generally...

nah i'm a huge snob, i had very low expectations but it was actually very enjoyable. I thought the residents were just gonna play shit electro house, any more of which I definitely don't need in my life.

Smith n Hack - Space Warrior. Best House 12" this year so far by a mile. Both sides are ace. :)

fantastic record, but doesn't really belong on this thread. let's not tarnish smith n hack with this 'minimal' label, or it's getting even more meaningless than it already was.

yeah the B side is where it's at. best Italo revival track I've heard probably. not minimal in any way, shape or form though (unless anyone who's German gets called minimal nowadays!)

this is a better clip of my preferred track...

i find it very very lush. i think it needs decent speakers / headphones and a bit of a relaxed atmosphere (or an atmosphere where you can be sucked away for a bit)

Thanks for posting up a longer clip.

I still think it's lame though. It's not even an italo revival track, it's dull euro-house with some italo noises stuck on it.

If you want to see creative use of Italo in 2007, look at #2 in the charts :p

Well, I like it, but each to thier own I guess. It is a blatant Knife ripoff but I really like her voice, she sounds like Stevie Nicks.

I was taking the piss slightly, but the point is that italo is generally pretty poptastic and cheesy. That smith-n-hack is just tracky house music. You could have a popping bassline and a wah-wah guitar instead of the vocoder and the synth, and it would be funky house.

This is all my lighthearted 2c worth, I'm not gonna take a massive stand on it or anything. But I've got to say, I do keep an eye on this thread and check out the tracks y'all are hyping, and most of them are pretty 'meh' to me. I'm a washed up old git though :)

I see you and raise you, ha!

sorry if i came across a bit harsh. I think annie did what robyn is doing now better a few years ago. Well that's fine I only want to see young, beautiful people when I go to a club playing minimal :p

yeh i wouldve said its more deep electro house if we were to be penickity, but i dont think it really matters. some italo is pretty deep though is it not? i dont know that much but from perusing the odd blog ive come across a few deep and dark ones

i dont think Falling Stars is groundbreaking, quite the opposite, and quite remarkably so given Smith n Hack's usual approach, but i think its really, really beautiful, i find it engulfing, emotive and blissful. but these things are absolutely subjective, so i can easily see how you might not feel it

it must be with a very different ear that someone of your generation listens to these tunes

i've just heard falling stars in full length, and completely agree with elgato - it isn't innovative but DAMN is it good. It's funny, I often feel funny about listening to things that reference the past so heavily, yet this, this is just amazing. I don't know too much italo, but one song I love is Frogs in Spain by Fake.

its funny because im usually quite zealous when it comes to innovation / lack of, but with this i couldn't help but love it

it may well be to do with not knowing the music its referencing too well, but whatever, it makes me feel amazing so why question it

sorry but this is drivel. the track IS a synth and vocoder. if you took those away it wouldn't exist anymore? so if you had a wah wah guitar and a 'popping bassline' you'd have a totally different record that would be funky house. right
