Public Housing
but this is the perennial fusion v purism debate revisited. both methods can yield innovation in principle, but in this case being purist about house probably wont.

My view is that people being 'purist' about house aren't actually being purist at all, but are holding up some false image of how they'd like house music to be percieved. At this point in time house music can be anything anyone wants it to be! F' the snobs!

I don't think grime should slow down, theres a kind feeling that cannot be achieved with these beats slower than 138/140, its natural!... but 4x4 kick drums faster than 130-135 start to get abit 'much' (& technoish)

Nothing wrong with multiple tempos being played over a night tho is there? or, god forbid, a set!!!

I sped up some empty congo sounding Apple track to 138 late last year and have been sliding it in silently into sets since then.

Works nicely as a change up.

anyone heard the new Roll Deep album?
I'm quite dissapointed, I listened through it a few times and only 2 or 3 okay tracks popped up and the rest is utter shite

That shit is so wack

They have so many good producers and MC's but they just went in completely the wrong direction with this album

Club 7 and Thunder & Lightining are good tracks though

thoroughly disappointed. as disappointed as you can be from giving each song a play from poor quality youtube videos.

All about pride and egos
Yeah I heard it, it's rubbish, unadulterated rubbish.

I haven't heard it yet, but the bad reception is disappointing. Here I was thinking they'd finally got it together on Rules and Regulations, and now I'm hearing they lost the plot again. I guess I'd be fooling myself to think a group run by Wiley wouldn't, like the Three Stooges, bash in the bottom of their boat to drain a leak. :slanted:

I loved Rules and Regulations, but the beats on this are wack. I can totally understand wanting to sound like Madness if you're a pop band - what better? - but you gotta have the choruses first. It's a prime example of the problem of MC culture - that giving one's own experience is enough, and frankly it isn't. Chatting on beats - or acoustic guitar tracks, or whatever - is about giving over the meaning of your experience to a perceived audience. If you've lost that hunger and can't do the direct experience thing then you gotta try and take that to writing songs, killer choruses...you gotta go further. See rolex and dance with me for that, it's fair enough and good I think for development. But I dunno who wasn't involved - Trim, or some backstage people or what - on this one but it fails on all levels. Sad really. Sounds and feels like a crew falling apart, if that was the intention - and see the last track, it sounds like it was - then good. It's not even heartbreaking though, it just feels like people with a platform and nothing to contribute.
