Darned cockwombles.
Barcelona have been playing some of the best football in the history of the world and are 4-0 up against Bayern.

except no-one can see it! *

*except people who have sky sports 53.

GUtted about that.

Edit: seen the highlights. Messi is God. Barcelona-Chelsea is going to be an absolute humdinger.

Forgive me for gloating. :D That's the best I've seen Chelsea play all year. Unbelievable. Even Malouda is waking up under Hiddink - the man must be some kind of managerial genius. Only spoilt a little by Terry's 'I'm going to ram my head against a brick wall' moment. There's no finer sound in football than a muted Anfield.

Can't have done any harm that Essien returned to fitness around the same time. The man's a colosssus, best player on the pitch last night.

Come now, a muted Old Trafford is priceless. :)

As for that zonal marking...watching Ivanovic's movement, it's not rocket science. Move raggedly across a few zones and it's all fucked.

OK, shall I just chuck £100 on a Chelsea-Porto final? 9-1!

True, but watching the replay of his movement a few times I became entranced by what looked to me like poetry in motion as he wove between and around the opponents to meet the ball.

I still expect to wake up any minute. ;)

I thought it was great, don't get me wrong, but NO-ONE WAS FOLLOWING HIM - the utter ridiculousness of zonal marking against a savvy manager like Hiddink.

You just did. 3-0, Torres hat-trick. Sorry mate. Ivano-who?

Phew, if you've got it to lose...

Barca are brilliant, but such a wildcard - they can tear anyone to pieces, but that defence

Not impossible that Chelsea should lock it up at the back and then make them look stupid at the other end. (and Terry has now got his suspension out of the way for an a dead match)

Nah, haven't got it to lose, to be honest, although I may have next week. I don't bet ont he principle that I would be destitute within a matter of hours.

Chelsea have the beating of Barcelona for sure. How they gonna stop Terry and Lord Ivanovic from scoring at set pieces? And Drogba always comes up with important goals, especially against suspect defences.

I'd love nothing more than for Barca to win it, but I think Chelsea (who of course have very little to concentrate on in the league) will stop them just like they did in 2005, when Barca were similarly brilliant.

Of course, 2006 was the year when my pessimistic logic went out of the window and the two most exciting teams in Europe met in the final (when was the last time THAT happened? Answer - probably 1994, although one of them was brilliantly masquerading as a boring 1-0 win machine, before springing the ultimate surprise).

ah, '94.

that was good.

I probably go on about it too much though.

1997, 2000, 2002 and 2005 were pretty good too, in terms of the semis and the final. The CL does provide consistent excitement from the last 16 onwards - if only there were more possibility for the likes of Wolfsburg to have a real shot at it.

Sack the group stages - 32 teams, knockout all the way. Then it'd be fucking brilliant.

"It was clear in every part of the team that we just could not live with them."

Klinnsmann's assessment of last night. if only ANY of "our" managers could be nearly this gracious.

Every time I see evidence of Klinnsmann's decency I just think, yeah, you've got years of being a cheating bastard to make up for.
