it's obviously not an exclusive pleasure etc that's why they sell records commercially, you do know that you can buy records don't you?

yeah i saw that too. weird because they most certainly did and i most certainly bought a second one with the idea of selling it for an exorbitant price.

ha! really? records are actually for sale?? amazing...;)

i was thinking more of a situation where records are made in relatively small runs and often not repressed...on top of the fact that there are a hell of a lot fewer places to buy vinyl nowadays anyway. they are sold, but hardly readily available.

there are more chances to buy vinyl nowdays on this 'ere internet than there ever were, plus gotta to balance demand/cost covering for these things like with anything else i guess.

Yeah, I like the idea of keeping it local, keeping it about the club, keeping it in the moment. That it's more important to build your local community than to have the best tunes from everywhere in the world. It's also a nice counterweight to the collector mentality that has to have the key documents of every significant development etc...

i've always appreciated and supported the idea of local scenes, but that sounds a little elitist. basically, you're saying if someone happens to live out in the nowhere or in another country, then screw 'em. they're somehow not worthy of experiencing something going on elsewhere.

and that's the first i've ever heard of that sort of "collector mentality." does that really exist?

Not to mention the price! Oh to be able to afford vinyl, but alas, the price of a record also feeds a family for a day.

Thank god for the mixtape tradition and the internet or the luxury of good music would be out of reach for the average person

re: DMZ and the demilitarized zone or the whole digital mystikz spiritual implication coming to prominence in an age of war and new age internet religiosity? It's practically a pilgrimmage to mecca type of thing to attend at least one DMZ as part of your dubstep baptism. Even mass at brixton is stuff of legend. They're certainly tapping a vibe, whether conscious or not, it is PLUR inspiring.

Then theres the burial thing. I'm truly in awe!

I think it's easy to get caught up in the idea that there must be 1000 other people just like you out there who want these older tunes on vinyl and demand a repress. If they repress another 1000 and only 200 people actually buy it, they'd be screwed. That's the risk. Better to press a certain amount, sell them all and move on.

I can remember the early DMZ 12"s sitting around on the Blackmarket website for a while. They were easily available at the time. You didn't need to be immersed in any kind of elitist scene to hear them and buy them.

i have no doubt burial samples individual syllables and builds his own words. so deciphering his lyrics becomes virtually impossible, also given the treatment lavished upon them. it is still a hell of a lot of fun none the less guessing their meaning and source

vocally though his latest outing sounds a lot like brandy. Possibly even from this tune as there is a tinkly percussion type sound, a snare sound and rolling bass that somehow seem familiar.

even the lyrics are quite burialesque and seem to echo the sentiment of fostercare?

I think you're probably right about him cutting up syllables and making up his own words - it would be what's behind that really disjointed alien like sound to most of the vocals. Me and my mates have spent enough time guessing the intro to shell of light, sounds a bit like 'plimsole' to me

Well, we already know he got that from Todd Edwards, right? He openly admitted it.

First time I really heard Todd Edwards, I stopped in my tracks and had to sit down, rewind the set I was listening to, hear those chopped vocals, and my jaw dropped.

He's just more about losing faith than flourishing it.

it was on that hyperdub showcase from a while back (the mary anne hobbs one, not the benji b one). should be quite easy to find a download of it somewhere but let me know if not and i'll up it for ye. such a great tune.

edit: fuck me, i can't believe that show was a year ago
